I use Claude Code and Codex daily. Terraform plans, k8s manifests, debugging CI, writing runbooks - genuinely good at all of it. But I have a hard line: it never gets write access to production. Everything it produces goes through me and I read the diff before it lands. I've been trying to work out whether that line is engineering judgment or superstition. Every time I consider relaxing it I get an uneasy feeling I can't fully articulate, and "uneasy feeling" is a bad reason to leave value on the table. So, genuinely asking: Does anyone here let an agent make changes to production infrastructure? Not read-only, not staging. Actual writes to prod. If yes: what did you have to put in place before you were comfortable, and has it bitten you since? If no: is that a considered decision, or just not-yet? I'm most interested in the people who got past this and are fine. What did you build or buy that made it OK? Reaching out to this community to see if anyone else is having issues with the suggested locations section of Outlook Classic. Issue: Calendar, Location Suggestions will not populate anything other than local address book (Rooms) and addresses stored in roaming cache. Affecting entire org (70ish people) Experience: It seems that whatever service allows Outlook (Classic) to search for addresses dynamically cannot be reached. I just passed my GCP PCA exam, and I spent about two weeks preparing for it. The GCP study hub was incredibly helpful.. The exam consisted of 15 case study questions, so it’s important to study the requirements (technical and business) for each case study. There are questions specifically focused on these requirements, and I wasn’t fully prepared for that aspect. The exam was relatively easy, thanks to the GCP study hub, which was a great resource. I recommend focusing on the practice exams; they are almost identical to the actual exam. Aim to score 80% on each practice exam and retry to achieve that score. If you get some answers wrong, review them in the GCP documentation, That technique was a real game changer for me So, my question is, what certifications should I take next? Hi everyone, I'm looking for some honest feedback on my current self-hosted architecture. I have a feeling I may have made some poor design decisions, so I'd really appreciate suggestions on how to improve it. Here's my current setup on AWS: Frontend EC2: Two React applications (Admin & Tenant) deployed using a single Docker Compose file. Backend EC2: Two Go API applications (Admin & Tenant) deployed using another Docker Compose file. Core Services EC2: MySQL, Redis, Vault, Keycloak, and MinIO are all running on the same EC2 using a single Docker Compose file. Analytics EC2: Apache Superset deployed using Docker Compose. ETL EC2: Airbyte running via abctl (Kind/Kubernetes). Everything is currently self-hosted on AWS EC2 instances. I have a few questions: Is this architecture reasonable, or did I mess it up? What would you change or redesign if this were your production environment? Should I split any of these services onto separate servers or use managed AWS services (such as RDS or ElastiCache)? Would you recommend staying with Docker Compose, or is it worth moving to Kubernetes at this stage? For managing deployments across these servers, which would you recommend: Dokploy, Coolify, or Komodo? I’m curious how other sysadmins are handling recurring file transfers between local storage, SMB shares, SFTP servers, and cloud storage. Are you primarily using PowerShell or Bash scripts, scheduled tasks, commercial MFT tools, or something else? What is the best practices, reasons to do or not to do. Is it good idea to put API behind CloudFront or just use ALB. I used to use CloudFront infront to ALB to use api in path (/api) rather than subdomain but this caused me few issues, such as; Hosting SPA on S3 causes paths to return 404/403 and forces me to redirect those status codes to index.html with status code 200. I just have no idea how this advertisement laden, data scraping, pushes you to use internal features when you have already explicitly turned them off is the bread and butter of the corporate world. Why on enterprise systems are there so many ways to turn ads on and off with the spotlight feature, widgets, bullshit in your search by default. Ads are unprofessional and distracting. It also prompts you OFTEN to swap your defaults you explicitly set. One policy in my company they only recently overturned was that GIFs were distracting and not necessary for teams as it leads to off topic conversating. Ads famously are distracting by design. Even if we use an ad blocker it only covers the browser side of things. Why do gifs have a turn off switch do we not have global settings to turn more of this shit off. They only give us explicit OFF switches for fun things. I just feel like computers used to be less evil OOB. Now, you need to debloat the fucker to an inch of its life to make it even usable How did we get here? I am honestly new to the sys admin side of things, been in helpdesk hell for 6 years prior. I am also kinda the only person here with the "experience" (using that very generously here as i do not think i am fully qualified for all theyre asking which i have been transparent about) I have done an entire swap from 7- 10 and now facilitated several company wide transitions to Win11 and its a unilateral downgrade in function. No one is happier. Everything is more volatile and breaks because of a shitty update that kills basic functions. MS has major outages that impact businesses world wide OFTEN and there is ZERO consequence or stipend offered to the businesses that rely on them being resilient and redundant so outages dont happen. Everyone got reliant on them because there used to be NO outages that were this bad! now they are nearly commonplace. I can make plenty of changes in Intune and work with Dell to get all the tenant settings out of box but it just doesnt fix the fact that its stealing so much data we have no idea about yet. Like the TVs/Vaccuums creating maps of homes, we didnt know about that until those were already in a lot of homes. Did i just join IT in the worst wild west possible? I feel like the mass deregulation of just about everything probably has something to do with it but it mightve always been this way.
